JSON StringifyONLINE

Wrap an entire JSON document as one escaped JSON string.

1 MiB per input · Ctrl / ⌘ + Enter to run

The source document is validated before stringification. The result is a JSON string containing its exact original text.

THE PRACTICAL GUIDE

Encode a complete JSON document inside a JSON string

JSON Stringify wraps an entire valid JSON document as one quoted JSON string. This is useful when a protocol expects serialized JSON inside another string field.

When should you use it?

  • Embed a JSON body inside a JSON message.
  • Prepare a document for a string-only integration field.
  • Preserve the exact source text inside a quoted value.
WORKED EXAMPLE

Example: wrap JSON as a string

The outer quotes make the entire document one string value; parsing that string recovers the original text.

JSON document
{"a":1}
JSON string
"{\"a\":1}"

Use stringify when a field expects serialized JSON

Some APIs place a JSON document inside a string-valued field. That outer layer needs escaped quotes, backslashes, and control characters so it can contain the inner source safely. This tool validates the document and produces that quoted string representation. It preserves the inner source text rather than rebuilding the document from ordinary JavaScript values.

Confirm that a string layer is really required

An endpoint expecting an object should receive an object. Sending a string containing the same object changes its type, even if the visible text looks similar. Compare the API example or schema before encoding. If a response already contains an encoded document string, stringify again only when another explicit layer is required; otherwise use Unstringify to recover the inner document.

IN PRACTICE

How do I put a whole JSON document inside a JSON string field?

Stringify the valid source document to produce one escaped JSON string literal. Place that result as the value of the outer field without adding another manual escape layer. The decoded string retains the original document text, including whitespace.

JSON envelope containing stringified JSON

json
{"payload":"{\"id\":7,\"ready\":true}"}

The payload field is a string, not a nested object. The receiver must parse the outer object, then parse payload if it needs the inner structure.

Quotes inside the document have to be escaped so the entire document can live inside one outer JSON string. Those backslashes are part of the serialized representation.

BEFORE YOU USE THE RESULT

What should you check before using the result?

Stringify does not transform the original object into an outer object or repair broken input. A receiver must parse the outer string and then parse the inner JSON if it needs the original structure.
