JSON SearchONLINE

Find matching key names and scalar values with their exact JSON paths.

1 MiB per input · Ctrl / ⌘ + Enter to run

Search is case insensitive and returns up to 1,000 paths. It searches key names and scalar text, not whole object serialization.

THE PRACTICAL GUIDE

Find JSON keys and values with their full paths

JSON Search scans keys and scalar values and returns locations of case-insensitive text matches. It avoids manually opening each nested object.

When should you use it?

  • Find a customer ID in a response.
  • Locate every field named status.
  • Search for a specific scalar value across arrays.
WORKED EXAMPLE

Example: find a value by text

The path points to the scalar value containing the search term; search is case insensitive.

JSON and search term
{"team":[{"name":"Alex"}]}
Search: Alex
Matching location
$["team"][0]["name"]

Search for a clue, then inspect the matching location

A text editor can find the word status anywhere in the source. A structured search can attach the match to its JSON path, helping distinguish a property name from a value in another record. This search checks keys and scalar values without case sensitivity. Inspect the returned path and value together before deciding that two matches represent the same field.

Switch to a selector when the location is known

Search is useful when you know a fragment of a name or value. JSONPath is more direct when you already know the structural location and want all values from that branch. This search is not a regular-expression engine or a database filter. If a broad word exceeds the 1,000-match limit, the tool asks for a narrower term instead of returning a partial list.

IN PRACTICE

How do I find a value anywhere inside a nested JSON document?

Enter a text term and search keys plus scalar values. The results include bracket paths, making it possible to return to the exact field in a large array. Search is case insensitive, so Alex and alex match the same text.

JSON and a matching scalar location

text
{"teams":[{"lead":"Alex"},{"lead":"Sam"}]}
Search: alex
Match:  $["teams"][0]["lead"]

The search checks scalar text and key names. It does not search a serialized representation of an entire object.

The result list stops at 1,000 paths. Narrow the term or use JSONPath Query when you know the structural branch to select.

BEFORE YOU USE THE RESULT

What should you check before using the result?

A search exceeding 1,000 matches fails with a request to narrow the term. Search is plain text and case insensitive; for structural selection, use JSONPath Query.
